1st Environmental Hazards in Asia Conference
2024-04-25 | in MeetingThe first Environmental Hazards in Asia Conference will take place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, from 12-15 August with a field trip from 16-20 August. This conference aims to bring together practitioners of both with a focus on the hazards across Asia. The workshop will be structured to allow exploration of the underlying physical mechanics of hazards, explore the impacts of historical events across the continent and focus on the possible approaches to minimizing future impacts. The aim is to facilitate new ideas and proposals. Funds to support travel and subsistence to up to 20 participants from across Asia are available.

Call for papers: Special Issue on “Earthquakes and active tectonics in regions of slow lithospheric deformation: towards a re-evaluation of Stable Continental Regions (SCRs)”
2023-12-05 | in Meeting | one responseDear Colleagues,
We are aiming to organize a special issue titled: Earthquakes and active tectonics in regions of slow lithospheric deformation: towards a re-evaluation of Stable Continental Regions (SCRs). This special issue will complement a session on Intraplate Tectonics and Seismicity at the 37th International Geological Congress to be held in Busan, Korea in September 2024. The abstract for the IGC session is below, followed by our solicitation for contributions to the special issue. If you are interested in submitting an article to the special issue, please let us know a tentative title your list of authors by the 15th of December 2023.
We hope that you will join us in Busan and consider submitting your intraplate research to our special issue.
Sincerely,
The editors: Klaus Reicherter, Beau Whitney, Sambit Naik, Pierre Arroucau, Christoph Grützner, Stéphane Baize, Jim McCalpin

AGU Session S014 – Field observations, instrumental and high-resolution satellite imaging: A vision of improved active tectonics/paleoseismology hazard assessment.
2023-07-24 | in MeetingAGU has lots of interesting sessions to offer for paleoseismologists. Our colleague Pia Victor invites contributions to her session with Shreya Arora, Laurence Audin, Christie D Rowe, Alba Mar Rodriguez Padilla: Field observations, instrumental and high-resolution satellite imaging: A vision of improved active tectonics/paleoseismology hazard assessment.

INQUA summer school on Active Faults and Volcano-Tectonics, 25-28 September, Naples (Italy)
2023-06-27 | in PATA daysINQUA TERPRO’s project TPPT had decided to not organise PATA Days in the years with an INQUA congress, but instead to run a much smaller summer school for ECRs and DCRs. The summer school on Active Faults and Volcano-Tectonics will be held from 25-28 September in Naples (Italy). The event will be hosted by DiSTAR (Department of Earth Sciences, Enviroment and Resources , University of Naples «Federico II»).
The first two days will include lectures by researchers who will present state of the art studies on active faults. The second part includes two field trips in areas crucial for understanding active faults and the interplay between tectonics and volcanic activity. Download the circular (PDF) here.

8ᵗʰ International Colloquium on Historical Earthquakes, Palaeo- Macroseismology and Seismotectonics
2023-03-06 | in MeetingMain topics are: Historical Earthquakes, Palaeoseismology, Archaeoseismology,
more
Macroseismology, Seismotectonics. A special session will be dedicated to the recent catastrophic
earthquakes in SE Turkey and Northern Syria. On the third day a field trip will be organized that
will include visits to the ruins of the 1953 earthquakes, damages that occurred due to the 2014
earthquakes, expression of active tectonics and an overall experience of the morphology/landscape
of the island, as a result of intense seismotectonic activity.
