Jacek Szczygieł is looking for a Postdoc (2 years) for his project “Enhancing Paleoseismological Records through Multi-Methods Cave Deformation Analysis Tested in Diverse Hellenides Tectonic Regimes.”
The postdoc will be responsible for coordinating and obtaining input data for the FEM analysis and performing FEM modeling of speleothems.

Our colleague Jacek Szczygieł from the University of Silesia in Katowice (Poland) has received funding for the project “Enhancing Paleoseismological Records through Multi-Methods Cave Deformation Analysis Tested in Diverse Hellenides Tectonic Regimes.” As part of this project, there are two open positions: a 4-year PhD student and a 2-year postdoc. Springer has recently published the book Dynamic Tectonics and Karst in the series Cave and Karst Systems of the World, edited by our colleagues S. Shanov and K. Kostov. The book focusses on the influence of tectonic processes on the formation of karst and karst caves and one chapter is devoted to karst cave paleoseismology. The authors present studies from the Balkans, Cuba, and France. more
Todays field work image is again by Elisa Kagan and shows a damaged stalagmite in the Soreq Cave near Jerusalem. Damaged stalagmites were used to reconstruct earthquake recurrence intervals. more
