Dr Catherine Chagué is a Honorary Senior Lecturer at UNSW Sydney, Australia and Emeritus Scientist at NIWA Christchurch, New Zealand. She is also an Editor-in-Chief of ‘Sedimentary Geology’. Her research focusses on multi-proxy studies of recent, historical and palaeo-tsunami deposits, with emphasis on geochemistry, but also geochronology, mineralogy and sedimentology. Much of her work deals with the development of chemical and isotopic signatures to help identify and distinguish between tsunami, storm and flood deposits in the geological record, and for improving our understanding of inundation and runup of past events.
