Two Postdoctoral Research Assistants (Analogue Modelling) will undertake research in physical modelling of fault and fold systems in sedimentary basins, with a focus on rift basins, passive margins and on fold belts. The Department of Geological Sciences seeks applications from neotectonicists/thermochronologists who are interested in teaching and research in a geologically and culturally diverse environment in the Rio Grande rift of southern New Mexico. The Department values a balance of teaching and research. We seek individuals interested in building a department that will meet geoscience challenges of the 21st century. We offer the BS and MS degrees in geology. The successful candidate will participate in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advise undergraduate and graduate research projects, develop and maintain a dynamic research program, contribute service to the department, university, and geologic community, and may participate in outreach programs.

Die Stiftung Alfred-Wegener-Institut für Polar- und Meeresforschung (AWI) führt an der Neumayer Station in der Antarktis ein langfristig angelegtes Forschungsprogramm durch, das meteorologische, luftchemische und geophysikalische Beobachtungen umfasst. Darüber hinaus dient die Station im Polarsommer (Dezember bis Februar) als logistische Basis für Flugzeugeinsätze über dem antarktischen Kontinent und Feldexpeditionen, die weit über das Inlandeis führen.

PhD opportunities in Structural Geology, Tectonics, and Seismology at the University of Colorado-Boulder
PhD student opportunities involving deep crustal deformation, metamorphism, and seismic anisotropy are available for Fall 2013 in the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Colorado-Boulder. Projects approaching these topics from both the geology (field geology, structural and microstructural studies, petrology) and geophysical perspectives (seismic observations and modeling) and using areas throughout North America (Canadian shield, Cordillera, Rockies, and across the U.S.) are available. Ph.Opportunity in Structural Geology and Tectonics at University of Tennessee, Knoxville
The Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at University of Tennessee, Knoxville solicits applications for a Ph.D. student to conduct research on shear zones and detachments that formed during syn-convergent extension in the Cordillera Blanca, Peru. The project integrates microstructural and kinematic analysis, EBSD, electron microprobe, and fieldwork in the Western Cordillera, Peru. The project is NSF-funded and will start in the Summer/Fall 2013. Laboratory work will utilize the Cameca SX-100 electron microprobe facility at the University of Tennessee and the Zeiss Supra 55VP scanning electron microscope/EBSD system at Montana State University in collaboration with Dr. Colin Shaw. Knoxville offers educational and recreational opportunities in the nearby Cumberland Plateau and the Great Smoky Mountains.
