Doctoral Fellowship in Geochemistry or Geophysics at Utah State University
The Department of Geology at USU seeks outstanding PhD applicants for a Presidential Doctoral Research Fellowship pursuing research in geochemistry or geophysics/geodynamics, starting fall 2013. This highly selective fellowship provides four years of support in the form of a competitive stipend, tuition and health benefits.
Potential research in geochemistry includes geologic CO2 sequestration, origin and history of crustal fluids in active tectonic settings, unconventional fuels, and geothermal energy. Contact Dr. Dennis Newell (dlnewelljr@gmail.com).

Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Geophysics
The University of Cambridge has advertised the Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowships in Geophysics. The closing date is 3 Dec 2012, and details can be found on http://www.herchelsmith.cam.ac.uk/fellowships/SPS.html.
Funding is available for a maximum period of three years.
All Fellowships are to be held from 1 October 2013 or otherwise by negotiation. Fellowships are available for between two and three years and provide an opportunity for independent research, although the holders will usually work in close collaboration with established research groups in one of the Departments in the School. For geophysics, this would be the department of Earth Sciences http://www.esc.cam.ac.uk.
In accordance with Dr Smith’s will, candidature is limited to candidates who have obtained their PhD degree, or equivalent, within the last three years at any university but normally excluding Cambridge and Harvard.
The stipend will be on the University’s Postdoctoral Research Associate scale, currently between £27,578 to £35,938 per annum, with a research allowance of £13,000 in the first year and £11,000 thereafter.

Two postdoctoral fellows – Earth System Modelling Project, Department of
Earth Science, University of Bergen
The Earth System Modelling (ESM) project is a five-year collaborative
research effort by the University of Bergen and the Bjerknes Centre for
Climate Dynamics, and is funded by Statoil. The project investigates links
and feedbacks between geodynamics, source to sink studies, and
paleoclimate and involves in total 12 postdoctoral fellows and senior
researchers at the Department of Earth Science and the Bjerknes Centre for
Climate Research.
We are seeking highly motivated candidates with proven research potential
for the following positions:
1. Postdoctoral fellow. Geodynamics of conjugate North Atlantic rift and
passive margin formation.

Three Faculty Positions in the Department of Geological Sciences at Michigan State University (two open rank and one endowed professor)
The Department of Geological Sciences at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks candidates for three tenure track faculty positions: 1) an Endowed Professor of Solid Earth Geoscience; 2) an open rank position in Hydrologic Sciences, and 3) an open rank position in Geomicrobiology.

Vogel Endowed Professor in Solid Earth Geosciences (Associate or Full Professor) We are seeking an outstanding faculty candidate with research experience and background that fall broadly in the field of geodynamics. The successful candidate will fill the Thomas Vogel Endowed Professorship in Solid Earth Geosciences at the associate- to full-professor rank with tenure. This endowed Professorship is part of an initiative to enhance the Solid Earth program at MSU. Our priority as part of this initiative is to expand on our existing strengths and continue to build an internationally-recognized program that is consistently competitive for research funding, top-quality graduate students, and post-doctoral researchers. We invite applicants with broad areas of expertise including, but not limited to, crust/mantle dynamics, geochemistry/geochronology, and/or geophysics. Hydrologic Sciences (Open Rank) The appointment for this position will be in the Department of Geological Sciences and applications are encouraged from all areas of the Hydrologic Sciences. We are particularly interested in candidates with research expertise in: 1) quantifying how changes in climate and land cover impact solute transport and water flux through landscapes; 2) predicting fluid, solute, and heat fluxes at the basin scale; and 3) modeling interactions between climate, water, and ecosystems. Geomicrobiology (Open Rank) The primary appointment for this position is in the Department of Geological Sciences with a partial appointment in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. Specific research areas could include: 1) quantifying the spatial and temporal interplay between bio/geo/chemical and hydrologic processes; 2) advancing understanding in microbial evolution; 3) assessing the role of microbes in aquatic and terrestrial environments; and 4) understanding microbes in extreme environments. Turner Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Michigan
Applications are currently being solicited for the Turner Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Michigan. The fellowship is open to researchers in any field of the Earth Sciences, with a strong preference for candidates who have identified and have the support of a faculty mentor within the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. The application deadline is January 15, 2013.
Candidates from the geo-tectonics community interested in applying for this position may wish to consider current research directions in tectonics and structural geology and in geophysics within the department.

The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Michigan invites applications for the Turner Postdoctoral Fellowship. This highly competitive fellowship is open to all fields within Earth Sciences.

Turner Postdoctoral Fellows receive an annual salary of $55,000, discretionary research funds totaling $10,000, and a generous benefits package. The fellowship is awarded for a one-year period, with an anticipated extension for a second year.
