After the very successful 1st Workshop on Earthquake Archaeology and Paleoseismology in Baelo Claudia, Spain, in 2009 with almost 100 participants from 21 different countries, we are going to organize the 2nd Workshop in Corinth/Greece during next autumn (19th-24th September 2011). This is a joint initiative of the INQUA Focus Group on Active Tectonics and Paleoseismology and the IGCP-567 “Earthquake Archeology”.
The workshop will be thematic and will include invited speakers, oral presentations, discussions and posters, as well as a 2-day field trip in the active Corinth Gulf area, a boat trip crossing the famous channel, and a 2-day work shop with thematic invited talks on very specific topics and practice.
Corinth is situated about 85 km west of Athens, the railway leads directly from Eleftherios Venizelos airport (Prostiakos) to Corinth station. There you will be picked up by our shuttles.
We found a nice hotel with conference venue directly at the coast, like Baelo distant from the next city, but easy accessible. For more information see: http://www.kalamakibeach.gr
Kalamaki beach hotel is a four star hotel located only 6 km distance from the Corinth canal, on the road to the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, near
Mycene and only 85 km from Athens.
GPS coordinates: 37° 53′ 56” N, 23° 00′ 49” E
Grants for post-graduate students and young scientists will be available. Grants will cover accommodation costs and a reduced inscription fee.
