SUMMARY:CANQUA - Canadian Quaternary Association Biennial Meeting 2026
DESCRIPTION:Session 2: \n\n\n\n\n2. Bridging the Gaps: Advances in Paleoseismology across Marine\, Lacustrine\, and Terrestrial Environments\nSession Conveners: Brunet\, M. (ISMER – Université du Québec à Rimouski); St-Onge\, G. (ISMER – Université du Québec à Rimouski); Rizza\, M. (Université du Québec à Montréal); Lajeunesse\, P. (Université Laval\, Québec) \nReconstructing the history of past earthquakes across multiple environments is key to understanding fault behavior and improving seismic hazard assessments in diverse tectonic settings. From continental faults to lacustrine basins and deep-marine trenches\, each environment holds unique\, yet complementary archives that collectively address the challenges of modern paleoseismology. Integrating these different archives remains a major challenge\, but also a crucial opportunity to build fundamental understanding of rupture processes\, earthquake recurrence\, and associated hazards. This session aims to bring together researchers studying terrestrial\, lacustrine\, and marine archives to share methodological advances\, case studies\, and conceptual frameworks that connect across environments. We particularly encourage contributions that integrate multi-proxy approaches – including sedimentology\, geophysics\, geochronology\, and numerical modeling – to reconstruct past seismic events and their cascading effects\, providing new insights into recurrence intervals\, rupture patterns\, and multi-hazard interactions. We welcome studies conducted in Canada and worldwide. A key goal of this session is to serve as a platform to foster interdisciplinary discussions among “land-to-sea” researchers – especially early-career scientists – to bridge methodological gaps and strengthen lasting collaborations across environments.
