SUMMARY:19th Central European Tectonic Studies Group Meeting
DESCRIPTION:From rifted margin to subduction\, nappe stacking\, and basin formationwith a special focus onMesozoic structural and stratigraphic evolution of the Inner Western Carpathians (NE Hungary\, S Slovakia) \nThe conference will include two field trips\, as usual (the first and last days of the conference). The focus will be put on (1) Triassic salt tectonics; in this topic\, we have new results which changed our view on the Cretaceous structural evolution\, too. (2) Jurassic stratigraphy\, sedimentology\, mainly in the Telekesoldal Unit\, (3) structural and metamorphic characters of the Jurassic and Triassic of the Rudabánya Hills\, (4) Cretaceous nappe stacking in the whole realm. \nThe umbrella topic definitely and automatically incorporates other orogens\, which represent the study area of our divers research groups\, including\, for example\, Norway\, Bohemia\, Mongolia and others. \nThe date will be directly after Eastern (12–15th April /Wednesday-Saturday/ or 13–16th April /Thursday-Sunday/\, the exact timing depends on the availability of hotels. Please save the date for this conference! \nThe location of the conference will be in NE Hungary\, most probably in the modern town of Kazincbarcika (or eventually in Miskolc). Kazincbarcika is a more pleasant place than a modern town would suggest\, with nice parks\, good wines\, palinka\, ice cream\, and surrounding rolling hills. \nSocial events\, like a welcome party\, conference diner\, and wine tasting will be incorporated into the program. \nSo your only task is to keep in mind the date and register when the exact details will be distributed in the next circular.

SUMMARY:PATA Days 2022
DESCRIPTION:Dear colleagues\, \nWe are happy to announce that the organization of the PATA Days in France has progressed: the conference will occur during the last week of September 2022\, i.e. from 26th (Monday) to 30th (Friday). Obviously\, this is always depending on the sanitary situation\, which is now stabilized in France… but who knows… \nThe venue will be in Provence\, Southeastern France\, close to Aix-En-Provence. We are still in the process of site selection. We have identified several beautiful sites around Aix-en-Provence and Cavaillon. The call of tenders is open to offer you the best solution. In any case\, we will select a site where the attendance will be grouped\, to foster exchanges\, following the “philosophy” of the previous PATA Days conferences. \nPrices will be all-included (registration\, accommodation\, meals\, 2 field-trips with transit by bus). We are targeting a fee of ~600-700 €\, considering the price level in France and the sponsoring that was already prospected. We are seeking a site where there will be the opportunity to share the accommodation and then reduce the fee.

SUMMARY:Sea Level 2022
DESCRIPTION:Five years after the WCRP sea level conference took place in New York in 2017\, and one year after the last AR6 report provided a comprehensive summary of the state of climate related large scale sea level research\, the conference will address the existing challenges in describing and understanding regional sea level changes. The conference will focus strongly on the link from large-scale sea level information to coastal areas and societal implications of those changes to coastal communities. This will include dedicated sessions devoted to practitioner interests and concerns\, the science/practitioner interface\, and the co-production between sea-level scientists and practitioners of appropriate information to support coastal adaptation. \nThe meeting is held in Singapore adjacent to south\, south-east and east Asia where three quarters of the global population vulnerable to sea-level rise live today. The meeting is hybrid allowing virtual or in-person participation. \nThe WCRP SEA LEVEL 2022 CONFERENCE Organising Committee \n\nRobert Nicholls\, University of East Anglia. SUMMARY:SCEC Workshop: Coordinating Post-Earthquake Field Data Collection (January 12 & 14\, 2022)
DESCRIPTION:A SCEC workshop will be held online January 2022 focused on creating a framework to standardize post-earthquake response in four areas: coordination\, communication\, data collection methodology and data types. This framework will include curation and dissemination of ground deformation observations in ways that improve their usability for earthquake geology\, simulations and other modeling activities\, as well as Probabilistic Fault Displacement Hazard Analyses (PFDHA). Anyone currently working on\, or interested in\, post-earthquake studies is encouraged to participate\, especially researchers and young investigators with expertise in earthquake geology\, geophysics\, modeling\, and those who collect perishable data to improve engineering practice. We anticipate participants from the broad scientific community (academic\, government\, private sector). \n  \nThe workshop will be conducted as a Zoom meeting over two\, non-consecutive days (January 12 and 14\, 2022 from 09:00-13:00 PST each day). Invited talks will include lessons learned from recent earthquakes\, insights from existing data compilations/databases and modeler needs\, and an overview of current surface fault rupture data schemas. Discussions during breakout sessions will focus attention on data collection tools\, communication and information dissemination\, compilation and end-user needs\, and remote-sensing support. An outcome of this workshop will be updated guidelines and recommendations for implementing and streamlining the data collection process for surface rupture displacements\, with applicability towards other post-earthquake ground deformation collection efforts. For more workshop information\, visit: https://www.scec.org/workshops/2022/eqresponse. \nTo participate\, please apply by December 27\, 2021 using the following form: https://forms.gle/APVXmY38owwFwwtA6. \nBy accepting an invitation to participate in a SCEC-supported event\, by email or online registration\, participants agree to abide by the SCEC Activities Code of Conduct. \n  \nWorkshop Conveners: \nTimothy Dawson (CGS) \nDanielle Madugo (UCLA) \nAlexandra Sarmiento (UCLA)
