DESCRIPTION:Yorsget is a conference aimed primarily at MSc/PhD students\, post-docs\, and early career researchers in the broad field of structural geology and tectonics. The conference provides a platform for networking and research presentations in a supportive and inspiring atmosphere. The conference consists of keynotes\, regular talks\, poster presentations\, and field trips. \nThe location of Yorsget 2018 in Montgenevre\, France\, has been selected due to its proximity to some world-famous examples of structural geology and tectonics\, from outcrop to regional scale. \nThe first Yorsget was organised at the University of Oviedo\, Spain\, in 2008. The conference in 2018\, therefore\, marks the 10-year anniversary of the first conference. TecTask\, the main sponsor of this conference\, invites applications for organizing the next Yorsget conference in 2020.

SUMMARY:Workshop: Digital Photogrammetry for Structural Geologists\, Montgenèvre\, 1 July 2018
DESCRIPTION:Dr Stefan Vollgger from Monash University\, Australia will give a 1-day workshop on the principles of Structure-from-Motion and how to use this technique to aid 3D visualisation and interpretation of field data. \nThis 1-day workshop is designed for all structural geologists that are interested in generating digital outcrop models using Structure-from-Motion Multiview Stereo (SfM MVS). In this workshop attendees will learn a “best practice digital photogrammetry workflow” including image acquisition (choice of camera/lens\, camera settings\, image overlap\, survey layout)\, the use of markers/ground control points and scale bars\, the right choice of processing settings and how to share and export generated spatial datasets. All attendees will be processing UAV imagery of a coastal outcrop using the digital photogrammetry software package Agisoft PhotoScan Pro. During the training\, attendees will also be introduced to CloudCompare\, a free and open-source point cloud editing software which allows to extract structural data (e.g.\, bedding measurements\, fracture orientations\, etc) and much more from 3D point clouds.

DESCRIPTION:This is 9th International INQUA Meeting on Paleoseismology\, Active Tectonics and Archeoseismology and its associated Summer School on Active Tectonics. The events are organized in northern Greece\, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the deadly 1978 Thessaloniki earthquake. Dates and venues are: \n\n24 June 2018: Kassandra field trip (starts in Thessaloniki and finishes in Possidi).\n25-27 June 2018: Workshop at Possidi Holidays Resort & Suites Hotel (oral sessions) and the Aristotle University’s camping (poster sessions and events). This is the main event of PATA days 2018.\n28 June 2018: Summer School at the Aristotle University’s camping.\n29 June 2018: Mygdonia basin field trip (starts in Possidi and finishes in Thessaloniki).\n\nYou may register for any event\, or even all of them. SUMMARY:10 years after the 2008 Movri Mtn Earthquake: International workshop in Patras\, Greece\, 13 June\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the Movri Mtn Earthquake in Greece. A workshop will be held in Patras on the 13 June\, 2018\, with a field trip to the Movri Mtn epicentral area (geology\, geomorphology\, geodesy\, earthquake effects). The trip is organised by the Department of Geology\, University of Patras\, Greece\, in conjunction with the Tectonics Committee of the Geological Society of Greece.\nThis workshop is the 2nd of a recent series of scientific meetings organized by the Tectonics Committee of the Geological Society of Greece aiming to shed light on tectonic processes related with the active deformation in different levels of the crust of western Greece such as landscape evolution\, seismicity\, near field geodesy and their significance for hazard assessment and oil prospect. The workshop will provide an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present their latest work on evaluating the impact of the active deformation on the society as well as to highlight innovative applications and research outcomes. Students of geology or related disciplines are welcome to the workshop. \nThe organisers invite original or review contributions on structural geology\, geomorphology\, seismicity\, crustal deformation (GNSS and InSAR)\, natural hazards that discuss the topics in term of concepts\, state of the art\, research\, standards\, running experiments\, and applications in similar areas. The topics include (but are not limited to): \n\nStructural Geology and Geomorphology of NW Peloponnese\nSeismology and near surface tectonic geodesy\nGNSS-InSAR\nGeomorphological evolution in slowly deformed areas\nPrinciples\, theories\, and models\n\nAfter the end of the workshop a short field trip in the study area is planned. DESCRIPTION:The aim of the workshop is to familiarise the participants with methods of image processing and to carry out a number of different micro-structural analyses.  The workshop is based on Image SXM\, a public domain software\, the platform is Mac OSX. It is also possible to follow the course using Image J (PC based).\n\nThe course is open to Master level students\, PhD and Postdocs. The number of participants is limited by the number of available workstations (15).
