SUMMARY:2025 Glacial Isostatic Adjustment workshop: Advancing Models and Observational Constraints
DESCRIPTION:A workshop focused on glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA)\, ice sheets\, sea-level change\, and associated geodetic and geophysical observational constraints will be held at the Institute of Ocean Sciences (IOS) and Pacific Geoscience Centre (PGC)\, located near Sidney\, British Columbia\, Canada\, from 2-6 June 2025. The workshop aims to bring together 80-100 researchers of all career stages to discuss recent advances in the observations\, analysis\, and modelling of GIA.

SUMMARY:21st Meeting of the Central European Tectonic Studies Groups
DESCRIPTION:About CETEG\nThe mission of the Central European Tectonic Groups (CETEG) is to strengthen the professional communication and the coordination of activities of formal groups and individuals from the Central European countries interested in broadly scoped tectonics and geodynamics of the Earth crust. According to the assumed convention\, scientific gatherings of CETEG are to be held annually in geologically attractive regions\, each year in the different member country. The Central European Tectonic Group is an open scientific association bringing together the geoscientists with the interest in geodynamics of the Earth crust in a broad measure. The already well-established topics of the annual meetings are related to the structural evolution of the orogenic belts\, basin evolution\, a relationship of magmatism and tectonics and other subjects\, studied by the methods of structural geology\, petrology\, geochemistry\, sedimentology and geophysics. \nMain topics of the 2025 Meeting\nAfter 10 years we are going to bring your attention again to the geodynamic evolution of the western part of the Bohemian Massif… Several keynote lectures by top specialists (more details in the 2nd Circular) will provide hints to the main topics of the meeting. Nevertheless\, the main body of the conference will consist of regular contributions\, which are heartily welcome and will hopefully cover a very wide range of topics related to various aspects of structural geology\, petrology and geochronology\, as well as neotectonics and basin evolution traditionally promoted as important subjects of the meeting.

SUMMARY:Cargèse 2023 School on Subduction Zone Processes
DESCRIPTION:Subduction zones are convergent plate boundaries\, where oceanic plates sink into the mantle. They host the largest earthquakes\, but also slow slip and tremors. The dynamics of subduction zones\, their ability to host episodic tremor and slip\, their segmentation depend on several parameters\, such as the age and structure of the incoming plate\, the geotherm\, the presence of fluids\, or the thickness and geology of the overriding plate. The factors controlling the time of occurrence and size of the earthquakes\, the nature of the link between the slow slip events and the seismic rupture\, the role of fluids\, the structure and geology of the subduction channel\, the rheology of the mantle and its impact on the short-term dynamics of the subduction zones are active areas of research. \nThe objective of this school is to provide young Earth scientists (Masters\, PhD candidates\, post-docs) with an overview of the state of the art and current challenges in the study of active subduction. We aim at gathering specialists of different fields\, including geodynamic modelers\, geologists\, seismologists\, geodesists\, geophysicists to build bridges between these different disciplines and come up with a broad overview of the processes at stake in subduction zones. We also aim at discussing their potential interaction-retroaction effects.

SUMMARY:INQUA TERPRO summer school on Active Faults and Volcano-Tectonics\, 25-28 September\, 2023\, Naples (Italy)
DESCRIPTION:INQUA TERPRO’s project TPPT had decided to not organise PATA Days in the years with an INQUA congress\, but instead to run a much smaller summer school for ECRs and DCRs. The summer school on Active Faults and Volcano-Tectonics will be held from 25-28 September in Naples (Italy). The event will be hosted by DiSTAR (Department of Earth Sciences\, Enviroment and Resources \, University of Naples «Federico II»). \nThe first two days will include lectures by researchers who will present state of the art studies on active faults. The second part includes two field trips in areas crucial for understanding active faults and the interplay between tectonics and volcanic activity. Download the circular (PDF) here.

DESCRIPTION:Following the tradition of the previous Emile Argand conferences (informally know as the “Alpine Workshop”)\, the next Conference in Siena includes 3 days of presentations\, as well as excursions. \n\nFriday 13 – Sunday 15 September 2024: Pre-conference excursions\nMonday 16 – Wednesday 18 September 2024: Conference (oral and poster presentations)\nThursday 19 – Saturday 21 September 2024: Post-conference excursions\n\nSince 1993 in Grenoble (France)\, the “Alpine Workshop” brings together geoscientists doing research or simply interested in the structure and evolution of the Alps and adjacent orogens. Aim of the Conference is the exchange of new ideas about tectonics\, structure\, stratigraphy\, and metamorphic evolution of the Alps. Geoscientists from different disciplines are welcome to present their ideas. In addition to oral and poster presentations\, multi-day field excursions will be offered before and after the meeting. SUMMARY:2023 Glacial Isostatic Adjustment Training School
DESCRIPTION:A training school focused on exploring glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA) modelling will be held from 3-7 July 2023 at Lantmäteriet in Gävle\, Sweden. The program will include lectures and practical exercises aimed at investigating the interactions between solid Earth deformation\, ice mass change\, and associated sea-level and geoid variations. Students will complete homework exercises utilizing freely available modelling software and will have the opportunity to spend one-to-one time with leading researchers in the GIA community while working through examples in class. A field trip to examine records of land uplift and sea level change will be included.
