SUMMARY:Cargèse 2023 School on Subduction Zone Processes
DESCRIPTION:Subduction zones are convergent plate boundaries\, where oceanic plates sink into the mantle. They host the largest earthquakes\, but also slow slip and tremors. The dynamics of subduction zones\, their ability to host episodic tremor and slip\, their segmentation depend on several parameters\, such as the age and structure of the incoming plate\, the geotherm\, the presence of fluids\, or the thickness and geology of the overriding plate. The factors controlling the time of occurrence and size of the earthquakes\, the nature of the link between the slow slip events and the seismic rupture\, the role of fluids\, the structure and geology of the subduction channel\, the rheology of the mantle and its impact on the short-term dynamics of the subduction zones are active areas of research. \nThe objective of this school is to provide young Earth scientists (Masters\, PhD candidates\, post-docs) with an overview of the state of the art and current challenges in the study of active subduction. We aim at gathering specialists of different fields\, including geodynamic modelers\, geologists\, seismologists\, geodesists\, geophysicists to build bridges between these different disciplines and come up with a broad overview of the processes at stake in subduction zones. We also aim at discussing their potential interaction-retroaction effects.

SUMMARY:INQUA TERPRO summer school on Active Faults and Volcano-Tectonics\, 25-28 September\, 2023\, Naples (Italy)
DESCRIPTION:INQUA TERPRO’s project TPPT had decided to not organise PATA Days in the years with an INQUA congress\, but instead to run a much smaller summer school for ECRs and DCRs. The summer school on Active Faults and Volcano-Tectonics will be held from 25-28 September in Naples (Italy). The event will be hosted by DiSTAR (Department of Earth Sciences\, Enviroment and Resources \, University of Naples «Federico II»). \nThe first two days will include lectures by researchers who will present state of the art studies on active faults. The second part includes two field trips in areas crucial for understanding active faults and the interplay between tectonics and volcanic activity. Download the circular (PDF) here.

SUMMARY:16th Emile Argand conference on Alpine studies - Alpine Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Following the tradition of the previous Emile Argand conferences (informally know as the “Alpine Workshop”)\, the next Conference in Siena includes 3 days of presentations\, as well as excursions. \n\nFriday 13 – Sunday 15 September 2024: Pre-conference excursions\nMonday 16 – Wednesday 18 September 2024: Conference (oral and poster presentations)\nThursday 19 – Saturday 21 September 2024: Post-conference excursions\n\nSince 1993 in Grenoble (France)\, the “Alpine Workshop” brings together geoscientists doing research or simply interested in the structure and evolution of the Alps and adjacent orogens. Aim of the Conference is the exchange of new ideas about tectonics\, structure\, stratigraphy\, and metamorphic evolution of the Alps. Geoscientists from different disciplines are welcome to present their ideas. In addition to oral and poster presentations\, multi-day field excursions will be offered before and after the meeting. The field trips will take you to some of the most beautiful areas in the Ligurian Apennines\, Tuscan Apennines\, Elba Island.

SUMMARY:19th Central European Tectonic Studies Group Meeting
DESCRIPTION:From rifted margin to subduction\, nappe stacking\, and basin formationwith a special focus onMesozoic structural and stratigraphic evolution of the Inner Western Carpathians (NE Hungary\, S Slovakia) \nThe conference will include two field trips\, as usual (the first and last days of the conference). The focus will be put on (1) Triassic salt tectonics; in this topic\, we have new results which changed our view on the Cretaceous structural evolution\, too. (2) Jurassic stratigraphy\, sedimentology\, mainly in the Telekesoldal Unit\, (3) structural and metamorphic characters of the Jurassic and Triassic of the Rudabánya Hills\, (4) Cretaceous nappe stacking in the whole realm. \nThe umbrella topic definitely and automatically incorporates other orogens\, which represent the study area of our divers research groups\, including\, for example\, Norway\, Bohemia\, Mongolia and others. \nThe date will be directly after Eastern (12–15th April /Wednesday-Saturday/ or 13–16th April /Thursday-Sunday/\, the exact timing depends on the availability of hotels. Please save the date for this conference! \nThe location of the conference will be in NE Hungary\, most probably in the modern town of Kazincbarcika (or eventually in Miskolc). Kazincbarcika is a more pleasant place than a modern town would suggest\, with nice parks\, good wines\, palinka\, ice cream\, and surrounding rolling hills. \nSocial events\, like a welcome party\, conference diner\, and wine tasting will be incorporated into the program. \nSo your only task is to keep in mind the date and register when the exact details will be distributed in the next circular.

SUMMARY:Winter School On Active Tectonics And Climate Change Driven Landscape Evolution
DESCRIPTION:– During the 16th and 17th of January\, we will have talks by young and experienced researchers. We will also invite attendants to share research and gather helpful tips and new collaborations through Pico-Talks (a 5-minute speech followed by an interactive Q&A session).\n– We also plan two days of fieldwork where experienced researchers will show crucial locations in western Sicily (the 18th and 19th of January). To date\, scheduled field trips are:\n– Relative sea-level changes evidence in the S. Vito Peninsula (led by Fabrizio Antonioli);\n– Active tectonics and its interaction with sea level changes in South Western Sicily (led by Luigi Ferranti & Pierfrancesco Burrato);\n– Archaeo-seismological evidence of historical earthquakes within the Archaeological Park of Segesta (led by Carla Bottari). \n  \nRegistration form: https://forms.gle/ruzspwAVDScbPz159

SUMMARY:PATA Days 2022
DESCRIPTION:Dear colleagues\, \nWe are happy to announce that the organization of the PATA Days in France has progressed: the conference will occur during the last week of September 2022\, i.e. from 26th (Monday) to 30th (Friday). Obviously\, this is always depending on the sanitary situation\, which is now stabilized in France… but who knows… \nThe venue will be in Provence\, Southeastern France\, close to Aix-En-Provence. We are still in the process of site selection. We have identified several beautiful sites around Aix-en-Provence and Cavaillon. The call of tenders is open to offer you the best solution. In any case\, we will select a site where the attendance will be grouped\, to foster exchanges\, following the “philosophy” of the previous PATA Days conferences. \nPrices will be all-included (registration\, accommodation\, meals\, 2 field-trips with transit by bus). We are targeting a fee of ~600-700 €\, considering the price level in France and the sponsoring that was already prospected. We are seeking a site where there will be the opportunity to share the accommodation and then reduce the fee.
