SUMMARY:SGTSG and SGSEG meeting `Convergence at the Coast`
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the 2019 Biennial meeting of the SGTSG (Specialist Group in Tectonics ans Structural Geology) and SGSEG (Specialist Group in Solid Earth Geophysics)\, themed `Convergence at the Coast`. This is also the first call for abstracts. \n\nThe conference runs from the 18th to the 22nd of November 2019 and is located in the stunning seafood capital of Australia Port Lincoln\, South Australia. More info: http://www.sgtsg.org\n \nEvents\nThere are a number of planned field trips\, workshops and social events associated with the conference. \n \n•	Pre-conference Field Trip: Lithospheric structures\, orogenic fronts and mineral systems: a traverse through the south-eastern Gawler Craton. Wed 13th - Sun 17th November 2019\n•	Mid-conference field trip: One day field trip on Wednesday 20th November\, visiting the spectacular local coastal outcrops of the Southern Gawler Craton\n•	Post-conference Field Trip: Tectonics\, magmatism and crustal growth in the southern Gawler Craton. Sat 23rd – Wed 27th November 2019 \n•	Free Loop 3D modelling workshop: Loop is a new platform that will enable field geologists\, researchers from academia and government organisations\, explorers\, resource modellers & managers to better define their 3D geological environment as well as assessing the requirement for optimised additional data/knowledge acquisition. The platform will be Open Source\, scalable and applicable to problems from the mine-scale to the plate-scale\, in data-rich and poor environment. It will serve to solve problems related to urban geology\, basins resources exploration and exploitation as well as minerals and scientific exploration in poly-deformed metamorphosed terranes.\n•	Conference dinner and awards night: Wednesday 20th of November at the stunning Line and Label Restaurant\, featuring local beer and wines as well as a selection of canapés and a seafood paella\, cooked and served by their award winning chefs and featuring all local produce. \n \nImportant Dates and Information\n•	Abstract submission closes 30/06/2019\n•	Early Bird registrations close 30/06/2019 - GSA member $700; non-GSA member $950; Student/Retired $350 \n•	Pre- and Post-conference field trip registrations close 31/07/2019 \n•	Full registration closes 30/09/2019 - GSA member $850; non-GSA member $1150; Student/Retired $450\n•	Spouse/Social Event only ticket closes 30/09/2019 - $190\n•	Workshops and Dinner registration closes 30/09/2019 \n\nStudent Bursaries\n•	A number of student bursaries are available to assist with the costs of students attending the Conference. \n•	In addition the SGTSG are offering a number of bursaries to directly assist students with the costs of attending the pre- and post-conference field trips.\n•	Visit the website for more information and to apply.\n \nThemes and invited speaker line up\nThe conference program will be built around a number of themes\, headlined by an invited keynote speaker. This year the SGTSG and SGSEG committees have tried to balance the invited speakers between established experts and up-and-coming ECR/MCR researchers. We are happy to announce the following confirmed themes and keynotes.\n•	Observational geophysics. Keynote: Assoc. Professor Meghan Miller. RSES Australian National University\n•	Geodynamics and thermodynamics. Keynote: TBA\n•	Domes\, basins and dynamic topography. Keynote: Dr Mark Hoggard\, Harvard University.\n•	The Australia-Antarctic connection. Keynote: Dr Naomi Tucker. University of Western Australia\n•	Experimental studies of rocks and structure. Keynote: Kathryn Hayward. RSES Australian National University\n•	Tectonic controls on mineral systems. Keynote: TBA\n•	Multi-scale structures and fluid-rock interaction. Keynote: TBA\n•	Plate margin and intra-plate orogenesis. Keynote: Professor Gianreto Manatschal. University of Strasbourg\n \nSGTSG Award Nominations\nNominations are now open for the Chris Powell Medal and the Bruce Hobbs Medal. For more information and to submit a nomination please visit the website.\n \nTo register\, submit an abstract or for more information\, please visit the conference website at http://www.sgtsg.org

SUMMARY:10th PATA Days\, Chile
DESCRIPTION:PATAis the most relevant workshop on paleoseismology and active tectonics of the INQUA Focus Group “Earthquake Geology and Seismic Hazard (IFG EGSHaz)”. For first time in South America\, we are honored to welcome the 10th PATA days in the hyperarid coastal Atacama Desert\, located in the active continental margin formed by the subduction of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate; a unique tectonic setting for the assessment of megathrust episodes\, upper-plate paleo-earthquakes\, and paleotsunami records\, and their relationship with surface processes and landscape evolution at Quaternary timescale. We invite presentations on: \n\nActive tectonics/neotectonics\nTectonic geomorphology\nSurface faulting\nPaleoseismology\nArchaeoseismology\nTsunami and paleotsunami records\nEarthquake-induced landslides\nLiquefaction\nProbabilistic Seismic Hazard Assessment\nProbabilistic Fault Hazard Displacement Analysis\nQuaternary geochronology\nShallow geophysics for seismic hazard assessment\nRemote sensing of earthquake deformation (LiDAR\, InSAR)
