1st circular out now for the 6th INQUA paleoseismology workshop in Fucino, Italy, 19-24 April 2015

The 6th INQUA workshop on Active Tectonics, Paleoseismology and Archaeoseismology will be held from 19-24 April, 2015, in Pescina, Fucino Basin, Italy.

We will remember the centenary of the 1915 M7 Fucino earthquake, that was one of the largest and most devastating earthquakes ever occurred in Central Italy.

The scientific sessions will be attended in the unique historical and cultural atmosphere of the Pescina village, which was affected by extensive coseismic surface faulting in 1915. The venue will be the Centro Studi “Ignazio Silone”(www.silone.it), a cultural center devoted to the world-famous writer born in Pescina who lost most of his family in the 1915 earthquake and authored several books on the Fucino people and environment.

After the opening ceremony and the celebration of the centenary of the 1915 Fucino event, about two and half days long scientific sessions will be focused on the following topics:

  • Quaternary Geology
  • Paleoseismology
  • Earthquake Engineering
  • Seismic Hazard
  • Tsunami Hazard
  • Archeoseismology

Abstract submission will open in a few weeks. Both oral and poster presentations will be welcome. A template for a 4 pages long extended abstract will be available on the workshop website www.fucino2015.it.

The abstract volume will be published on a ISBN publication. Deadline for abstract submission will be 15 January 2015.

As usual in INQUA workshops, geological field trips will be part of the scientific programme: a 2 days field trip in the Fucino and L’Aquila will follow the scientific sessions, retracing on the field the path of faults, landscapes, castles and ancient settlements. Moreover, participants will have the opportunity to join a pre-congress archaeoseismic tour downtown Roma.

The Registration Fee for the workshop will be very popular, in order to allow a broader participation: it will include participation to the scientific sessions, lunches and coffee breaks, ice-breaking party, transportation from the hotels to the conference venue. The participation to the geological field trips will be optional items (see flyer for details).

Concerning accommodation, please note that participants will be kindly requested to contact directly and make arrangements with a list of recommended hotels in Pescina and villages nearby. Deadline for registration will be 15 January 2015. Nevertheless, we recommend you to register in advance in order to find the best hotel arrangements.

For any questions please do not hesitate to contact directly a member of the Organizing Committee through this email address: fucino2015@gmail.com. Further information will of course be availabe at paleoseismicity.org.
